The Avv.ti PORZIO, BOVE E ASSOCIATI Law Firm was founded in Naples in 1964 by lawyer Mario Porzio and Prof. Lucio Bove, also a lawyer, (joined in 1969 by Vittorio Porzio), as a continuation of the firm (with offices in Naples and Rome), founded by Luigi Porzio (1899-1963), father of the current partners Mario and Vittorio, and Enrico Porzio (1908-1994), following the family tradition dating back to the lawyer and member of parliament, Giovanni Porzio (1873-1962). He was also Undersecretary of Justice at the time of the Nitti Government and member of the Prime Minister's Office during the last government of Giovanni Giolitti, as well as being a senator.

Currently, the firm - with offices in Naples (Via Raffaele De Cesare 31) and Milan (Piazza Castello 1), and associated offices in Genoa (Piazza G. Verdi 6/9) and Ravenna (Via IX Febbraio 2) - currently comprises, following the death on August 23, 2012 of the late founding partner, Prof. Avv. Lucio Bove, eight associated lawyers, two non-partner lawyers and three of counsel.

The firm works both in court (providing legal assistance also before the High Courts) and in extra-judicial areas, including:

- General civil law, specialising in corporate law, banking, commercial law, contracts and competition law

- Transport and maritime law

- Insurance law

- Employment law and related fields

- International law, in particular in the general shipping sector (with correspondents in London, Piraeus, New York and Hong Kong)

- Administrative Law

The possibility of dividing the work between partners and of counsel lawyers enables the firm to take on and provide assistance to clients both in the main offices (Naples, Milan, Genoa and Ravenna) or nationwide and, where necessary - especially regarding the maritime, commercial and insurance sector - even abroad, thanks to an extensive and established network of relationships with leading foreign law firms.

The firm provides advice and assistance throughout the country - also on a continuous basis - to individuals and to small and medium-sized enterprises as well as to some of the more important business and ship-building groups in Italy and abroad.

In 2023, with a perspective of a shared and mutual need to strengthen and extend the assistance offered to the respective clients also to specifically fiscal and tax issues, Studio Luigi Porzio – Avvocati Porzio Bove e Associati and Genoa Chambers have reached the decision to enhance mutual professional experiences through the association called “Studi Legali Consociati”.

The firm's international scope, which has been developing since the 1960s, has been strengthened over the years also thanks to the internships that all our Partners have done with British law firms, in line with the ethos that has always characterised the firm, seeking to provide its clients, at home and abroad, with full, fast, and efficient assistance and advice, at the same time wholly personalised and tailored to the requirements of each Client.

For all these reasons, since 2007, the firm has been designated by the "Chambers and Partners" guide (Europe's Leading Lawyers for Business) as one of the best Italian firms in the field of maritime law and Vittorio Porzio was mentioned in the 2013 edition as being "one of the most reputed players in the field" and a "360 degrees maritime lawyer".
