The law firm Avv.ti PORZIO, BOVE E ASSOCIATI was established in Naples in 1964 by Avv. Mario Porzio and Prof. Avv. Lucio Bove, later joined in 1969 by Avv. Vittorio Porzio, as a continuation of the firm (with offices in Naples and Rome) founded by Avv. Luigi Porzio (1899–1963), father of the current partners Mario and Vittorio, and Avv. Enrico Porzio (1908–1994). This legacy follows a long-standing family tradition dating back to Avv. Giovanni Porzio (1873–1962), a distinguished lawyer, member of parliament, Undersecretary of Justice during the Nitti Government, member of the Prime Minister's Office during the final Giolitti administration, and later senator.
Today, the firm operates from its offices in Naples (Via Raffaele De Cesare 31) and Milan (Piazza Castello 1), with associated offices in Genoa (Piazza G. Verdi 6/9) and Ravenna (Via IX Febbraio 2). Following the passing of its founding partner, Prof. Avv. Lucio Bove, on 23 August 2012, the firm now consists of six associated lawyers, two non-partner lawyers and three of counsel.
The firm provides both litigation (including representation before higher courts) and non-litigation legal services, covering a wide range of practice areas, including:
- General civil law, with special expertise in corporate, banking, commercial, contract, and competition law
- Transport and maritime law
- Insurance law
- Employment law and related disciplines
- International law, particularly in the shipping sector, with a network of correspondents in London, Piraeus, New York and Hong Kong
- Administrative law
The ability to delegate work among partners and of counsel enables the firm to assist clients across its main offices (Naples, Milan, Genoa, and Ravenna) as well as nationally and, when necessary—especially in maritime, commercial, and insurance matters—internationally, thanks to a robust and established network of relationships with leading foreign law firms.
The firm offers tailored legal advice and assistance throughout Italy, serving individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises, and some of the most prominent industrial and shipbuilding groups in Italy and abroad.
In 2023, with a shared vision of strengthening and expanding the scope of client assistance to include specialized fiscal and tax matters, Studio Luigi Porzio – Avvocati Porzio Bove e Associati and Genoa Chambers formalized a professional association under the name “Studi Legali Consociati”, enhancing the mutual professional expertise of the two entities.
The firm's international outlook, cultivated since the 1960s, has been further enhanced over the years through the internships undertaken by all partners with leading British law firms. This reflects the firm’s enduring commitment to providing clients—domestic and international—with comprehensive, prompt, and efficient legal support, always personalized and tailored to each client’s specific need.
This dedication to excellence has earned the firm consistent recognition. Since 2007, it has been listed by the prestigious Chambers and Partners guide ("Europe's Leading Lawyers for Business") as one of Italy's top law firms in maritime law. In the 2013 edition, Avv. Vittorio Porzio was specifically commended as "one of the most reputed players in the field" and a "360-degree maritime lawyer."
